RAFTING AT KITHULGALA
After exhausted period of my life I was lucky to hit on the road with my friend last month. Our mindset was to try some adventure as so we headed to Kithulgala, well known rafting and water adventure town in Sri lanka.Kithulgala is a small town located in the west of Sri Lanka, where you can enjoy unforgettable water sports alone with white water rafting.
It was a rainy Saturday,we began our journey at around 0800 and managed to reach the location at around 1400 in the afternoon.Area was bit crowded with tourists and locals as it was weekend. But we knew few local personalities in town, with their support we were lucky to head down to the river bank with three of the best rafting guides in local arena. We rented 03 rafts and some extra cash for more adrenaline.Starting location was right side of the main road and we had to climb down about 200m to the Kelani river bank. There were few teams of Germans already there.
This was my first experience and we got 15 minutes safety briefing.River was bit calm at the launch and so
we started paddling in to the command.
The atmosphere was breathtaking.Dark and cold wildness of giant trees are covering both sides of our
ride and wer breeze sneaking through our bodies.
ride and wer breeze sneaking through our bodies.
Down the Kelani river we came across first rapid.I got bit frightened but commanding was absolutely on point. We managed to beat that and few more. After 4 or 5 good executions,We saw a massive rapid ahead of us. I do not remember what happened exactly but our raft capsized among that notorious rapid.I saw two of my boat mates bouncing down the river and I was also the same, going up and down. I couldn't see, I couldn't even breath.I got peralysed,I thought this is the end and I'm going to die.But honestly that was the most expensive five seconds of my life. My right leg hit bottom of the river and arrived back to river surface. Then however I swam across the rapid water and managed to hold on to a tree branch. Luckily others also survived without major injuries. I had few bumps in my left leg other than that I was pretty damn happy. The experience was life changing.
After all I felt that the life we live everyday,we get up,we go for work, back to sleep and repeat. The same thing happening over and over again without commas or full stops. Stress, anxiety and anger all over us.Yet we don't care about ourselves.
"Life is not a destination. Life is a journey"
The Dose of adrenaline that my body generated that moment was unexplainable. My mind, body and heart created me a impact to my soul courtesy of adrenaline.
Final stage was jump over the raft and float down the calm Kelani river. The atmosphere was so amazing. Giant trees and mounts standing both sides of us and Kelani river bearing us through their wildness.
Then we headed to a mysterious part of the village. Hidden waterfall in Kithulgala called MANNAKETHI ELLA. As usual we walked through the mountains pass giants into the jungle. Route was mudy and slippery and bit of pradotary leeches.
One of the best views of my whole life so far that is MANNAKETHI ELLA. The picture was extraordinary beautiful and extremely dangerous. We reached to the top of the fall due to rain and slippery route.
Below photography is another small fall located top of the MANNAKETHI ELLA. This one is much smaller but still look gorgeous.
We spent few hours there and headed back to our hotel. We had small BBQ chit-chat there. The day was well spent and full of memories. We went to sleep cause we were tried and had more plans for next day.
